The Giver
Year: 2018
I started this project with an illustration depicting a scene from one of my favorite books growing up, The Giver. The scene involves the main character dreaming about seeing snow for the first time and riding a sled down a snowy hill. I enjoyed creating this illustration so much that I redesigned the entire layout of the book.

I used an apple on the cover as a metaphor for the dystopian society in which the story takes place. The society appears attractive and flawless but is rotting from the inside because of corruption. The apple is doubly symbolic because the members of the society are colorblind and the red in an apple is the first color that the main character sees. I kept the front and back covers as minimal as possible to symbolize the bleak and emotionless society that exists in the novel.
